또 루멘텀 이야기..어제 루멘텀의 주가가 9% 상승했다.

상승의 배경은 크게 두가지 요인으로 설명된다.

그런데 이 두 요인은 서로 연결되어 있는데, 가장 중요한 접점은 애플이다.

먼저 애플이 차기 아이폰 13시리즈에 ToF (Time-of-Flight) LiDAR 스캐너를 모두 장착 할 것이라는 예상이 기사화 되었다. 또한, 어제는 애플이 전기자동차 개발에 뛰어들것이라는 기사가 있었다. 이 두가지 요인, 아이폰 13과 아이카(i-Car, 가칭) 모두 루멘텀에게 엄청난 호재로 작용한 것이다. 모두가 루멘텀의 센서 제품을 사용할 것이라는 기대가 높기 때문이다.

단순히 아이폰 공급체인에 포함된다는 사실 보다 향후 아이폰 13과 아이카에 필요한 센서 수요가 엄청날 것이라는 것이 매우 중요한 사실이다. 기존에는 휴대폰 카메라는 한개의 모듈만 필요했지만 이제는 쿼드카메라라고 하면서 한대의 아이폰에 여러개 카메라가 장착되며 ToF기술은 그 자체로 두개 이상의 센서를 필요로 하게 된다. 또란 향후 ToF 카메라 및 스캐너가 보편화 되면 그 수요는 기하급수적으로 늘어나게 되는 것이다. 아이폰이 이정도인데 아이카는 그럼 도대체 어느정도의 수요 증가를 의마하는지 가늠조차 안된 부분이다.

다만, 아이카 관련해서는 루멘텀은 기존에 휴대폰에 사용되는 센서를 사용하는 공급업체로 위치해 있어 아직까지 루멘텀이 직접적으로 거론되는 것은 아니다. 그렇지만 루멘텀은 기존부터 휴대폰용 소형 센서뿐 아니라 다양한 제품을 준비하고 있었던 것으로 알고 있어 아이카가 계속 논의되고 분석될 수록 루멘텀이 후광을 입을 것으로 예상해볼 수 있다.

그리고 덧붙여 최근 모건 스탠리는 루멘텀의 목표가격을 상향하고 비중확대의견을 제시한 것도 이러한 상승의 배경의 다른 하나의 이유로 거론할 수 있을 것으로 보인다.

iPhone 13 will come with a smaller notch and ToF LiDAR scanners

This year, only the iPhone 12 Pro series uses a time-of-flight (ToF) LiDAR scanner. Due to the popularity of the iPhone 12 Pro series, there are now speculations that the entire iPhone 13 series will introduce the ToF LiDAR scanner. According to reports, the iPhone 13 (tentative name) will have four models like the iPhone 12 series. These phones will use D-ToF (Direct ToF) technology. The report claims that US-based II-VI will enter Apple’s supply chain for the next-generation iPhones. This company will fabricate VCSEL chips for time-of-flight (ToF) LiDAR scanners. Furthermore, analysts believe that the overall demand for ToF VCSELs will increase.

According to sources, in 2021, the VCSEL chips used by Apple’s ToF LiDAR, in addition to the products jointly developed by Apple and American firm Lumentum, will also be added to II-VI as the second supplier. The source of Lumentum Lei chips is still the British IQE. In addition, II-VI will use its own Lei chips.

Furthermore, Winmao is expanding its purchase of ToF-specific VCSEL testing and measurement equipment. There is an increase of about 20 to 30%. Also, case practitioners have indirectly confirmed that the number of holes in the rear lens of the iPhone 13 is increasing.
